Rooted in the rich embroidery traditions of the Kosiv region, the Blouse “Verbovetska” is inspired by the legendary “вербовецькі рукавниці” — ceremonial embroidered blouses known for their extraordinarily detailed fully embroidered sleeves. These remarkable garments originated in the villages surrounding Kosiv, particularly Cherhanivka, Verbovets, Smodna, and Staryi Kosiv, where women preserved and perfected this unique artistic tradition through generations.

What makes the Verbovetska Vyshyvanka truly distinctive is the complete embroidery coverage of the sleeves — a rare and highly labor-intensive technique that became a defining feature of these blouses. Because the greatest number of these embroidered shirts originated from the village of Verbovets in the Kosiv district, they became widely known as “вербовецькі рукавниці”, or simply “рукавниці” (“sleeve blouses”).

Historically, these blouses were treasured pieces of festive attire, reserved for celebrations and important occasions. Creating a single blouse often required more than a year of meticulous hand embroidery. Women and girls would spend long winter evenings working on the intricate patterns, and sometimes two embroiderers would collaborate on one garment together during traditional evening gatherings known as вечорниці.

This blouse carries forward that legacy with bold geometric embroidery, richly ornamented sleeves, and striking traditional color combinations that celebrate the artistry of Hutsul and Kosiv-region embroidery traditions while remaining elegant and wearable today.
